A team of surgeons successfully replaced Chittagong Medical College Hospital student Mahadi J Aqib’s skull bone, which was damaged during a clash between two factions of the Chhatra League last year, on Monday.

The operation started at 10:00 am and took around six and a half hours to complete successfully, said Dr Noman Khaled Chowdhury, head of the Neurosurgery department of CMCH, reports UNB.

“Aqib’s health condition is good and the surgery was successful,” said Dr Noman Khaled Chowdhury to journalists after the operation, urging all to pray for Aqib.

On November 18, Aqib returned home after taking treatment for 19 days at the hospital and undergoing a five-hour-long critical surgery.

On October 29, two BCL factions -- one led by a former mayor and another by a junior minister -- locked into a clash. They re-engaged in clashes the next morning, leaving Aqib and two others injured.

The medical board formed for his treatment decided to release him from the hospital keeping a part of his broken skull bone preserved inside his stomach. Aqib, a student of the 62nd batch of CMCH, was admitted to the hospital for surgery on Sunday.
