Maximum makeshift shops in Dhaka remain closed on Friday

Almost all makeshift shops at different areas in the capital were closed on Friday following the order by police citing security reason, traders said.

Police called upon the vendors using loudspeaker not to open their businesses on footpaths and pavements at different areas in the capital.

A Dhaka Metropolitan Police official said that they have taken steps to ensure safety and security of the city dwellers by averting any untoward incidents following the verdict against BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Hawkers at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque area, Dainik Bangla intersection, Gulistan, Purana Paltan, Pir Yemeni market, New Market, Gausia market and GPO areas said they were asked not to resume their businesses until further order.

“Police asked us not to open our shops until further order,” Md Quddus a trader at Baitulmukkaram Mosque area told the FE.
