With the advent of winter, mattress makers in Netrakona have become busy as others elsewhere in the country.

Some of them are getting new orders while the others repairing old mattresses.

Many of them have already made upholstery to attract buyers in advance, as they say the earlier one makes upholstery, the better one can make profits.

Mattress makers say they started receiving orders from traders much before the winter has set in this year.

Rafiq and Habib, quilt makers in Borobazar, say they have to work hard during the winter season from November through February while they almost pass time idly in the rest of the year.

They can make four to five mattresses per day earning Tk 700 to 800 on average, they add.

Some cotton traders say they see a brisk business only during winter, while in the rest of year they spend idle time.

Some of them even switch to other professions in the test of the year, they add.

Prices of cotton have increased this year compared to last year due to the demand, they note.

A resident in the district town’s Satpai, Nadira Akter says artisans are seeking Tk 1000 to 1500 per coating this year.
