Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra were advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three on Wednesday because of a deep depression over the Bay.
One to two feet high wind driven surge may inundate the low-lying areas of the coastal districts under its influence, the Met Office said in a weather bulletin in the morning.
Areas that are likely to be affected are Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Jhalakati, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands, reports UNB.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
The monsoon depression over Northwest Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal intensified into a deep depression.
At 9:00am, it was centred about 515km West-Southwest of Chattogram Port, 520km West-Southwest of Cox’s Bazar Port, 305km Southwest of Mongla Port and 350 km Southwest of Payra Port.
It is likely to move West-northwestwards. Under its influence, squally weather is likely to affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, the Met Office said.
