A man has died in police custody in Dhaka, hours after his arrest.
He breathed his last at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after he complained of chest pains, according to the police.
The accused Ripon was taken to Jatrabari Police Station after his arrest from the Kajla Sheikhdi Bazar area on Saturday, said OC Kazi Wajed Ali.
“He complained of chest pains and was immediately taken to a local hospital. His relatives were also informed of his illness. After receiving initial treatment, he complained of chest pains again when police tried to take him into custody.”
Ripon was taken to DMCH at around 12:15am where the doctors declared him dead, he had been suffering from various diseases, including high blood pressure, OC Wajed said.
A possible heart attack might be the reason of his death, reports bdnews24 quoting the officer.
But the cause of the death would be confirmed after receiving an autopsy report, added the OC.
Jamal Uddin Ripon, 45, was accused in five cases. He was a local cable television trader and had no record of political involvement, according to the police.
