Maldives president to arrive in Dhaka on Wednesday

Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will arrive in Dhaka on Wednesday to attend celebrations of Bangladesh’s golden jubilee of independence and birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A 10-day special programme will begin at the National Parade Ground from March 17 marking the two occasions.

 “President Abdul Hamid will receive his Maldivian counterpart at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:20am tomorrow,” President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin said, reports UNB.

He said President Solih will also attend the National Parade Ground function at Tejgaon. President Hamid will also be there at 4:30pm.

The Maldivian President, as part of his three-day Bangladesh visit, will pay a courtesy call on President Hamid at Credential Hall of the Bangabhaban at 7pm on Thursday.

Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would also sign the visitors’ book at Bangabhaban and witness the signing of some MoUs between the two countries, the press secretary added.

Later, the Maldivian President will join dinner and cultural programme hosted by his Bangladesh counterpart at Durbar Hall ground of Bangabhaban.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan’s Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is scheduled to arrive on a two-day visit from March 19.

Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari will be in Dhaka on a two-day tour from March 22 and Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering is scheduled visit from March 23-25.

Besides, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Dhaka on March 26.
