128 become addl secretaries, 3 transferred as DCs

The government, in a major administrative reshuffle, has promoted 128 joint secretaries to the posts of additional secretaries, raising the number of additional secretaries to 560.
Now the number of joint secretaries stands 653 with the large-scale promotion.

Meanwhile, three deputy secretaries have been transferred as deputy commissioners of as many districts.
The Public Administration Ministry issued a notification on Monday in this regard.
According to the ministry sources, there are 111 permanent posts of additional secretary and 430 of joint secretary.

So, it will not be possible to give new postings to the promoted public servants and they will remain in their present positions, they said.

Senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan told UNB that although it will not be possible to give postings to the promoted officials at a time, they will be posted gradually. "They'll continue to work in their present positions until their new postings," he said.

On April 23 last, 267 senior assistant secretaries were promoted to deputy secretaries.

On November 27, 2016, 536 officers got promotion in three categories -- additional secretary, joint secretary and deputy secretary.

In its previous tenure, the Awami League government promoted 2,528 officers in phases. Of them, 78 were promoted to secretaries while 293 to additional secretaries, 1,091 to joint secretaries and 1,066 elevated to the rank of deputy secretary.

As per Monday’s notification, Deputy Secretary to the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Abu Ahmed Siddique has been made DC of Pirojpur while Health Services Division Deputy Secretary M Jasim Uddin that of Pabna and Food Ministry Deputy Secretary Mohammad Zahirul Islam has been transferred as DC of Panchagarch.
