JOYPURHAT, Nov 25: The farmers have exceeded maize cultivation target this current season getting bumper production previous year in Joypurhat district.
The sowing process of the seed is going on in a full swing across the district. They are bringing the crop land under maize cultivation after harvesting T-Aman paddy. The process will be continued till last week of January.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DEA) office sources said, we have fixed a target to bring some 3,600 hectares of land under maize cultivation this season but the farmers have brought over 4200 hectares of land aiming financially self-reliant.
During a recent visit in Akkelpur, Kalai, Pachbibi, Khetlal and sadar upazilas of the district the correspondent found the farmers are working at the maize crop land defying adverse weather condition.
The farmers have been cultivating the high yield Donne-111, Nupur-123, Supershine and many other high yield crops across the district.
"I have cultivated maize on 25 decimal of land spending Tk 3,900," said farmer Mozammel Haque under Akkelpur upazila of the district. He again said, "I am expecting to make over Tk 23,000 as profit if the price remains fair.
Deputy Director of DAE Shudhindranath Roy said we have encouraged the grassroots level peasants to bring new crop land under the maize cultivation across the district. The farmers have shown more interest to bring the vast land under the maize cultivation, he added.
