Magura cultivators achieve success in growing BINA Dhan-19 paddy

Farmers of the district have achieved a remarkable success in growing BINA Dhan-19 paddy variety.

Officials of the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) said BINA Dhan-19 was cultivated on 20 bighas of land in Moghi village under Magura Sadar on experimental basis.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Magura provided all necessary support in this connection.

Sources said BINA-19 is high productive, heat tolerant. It requires low cost than other varieties.

Some five tonnes of paddy can be produced from a hectare of land.

It can be grown both in Aus and Aman seasons. The tasty rice also has an attractive essence.

Abdur Rashid of Moghi village under Sadar upazila said he cultivated BINA-19 variety and achieved more than 20 maunds of production.

The variety is being sold at Tk 1,000 per maund.

The peasant said BINA-19 is a short-duration variety. Cultivators can harvest it within 90 to 95 days of the plantation while other varieties take 110 to 115 days.

Acting scientific officer of BINA, Magura sub-center, Shampa Rani Ghosh said, "We have achieved outstanding success in producing BINA -19 paddy in the district."

 She said the variety is heat-tolerant. Growers can be benefited from the farming of the paddy in the present changing environment.
