BOGURA, Sept 04: Parija and Jirashail growers of Sherpur upazila in the district are dishearten due to low market price of the paddy varieties.
Sources said cultivators are getting Tk 3,000 to Tk 3,500 from the production of a bigha of land.
Harvest is going on in full swing and will continue until next week.
In a recent visit at Bishalpur, Kushumbi, Mirjapur Garidah, Vobanipur and Shabongi union of the upazila this correspondent found farmers were working hard in their paddy field.
The farmers are trying to complete the harvest as soon as possible to bring the same land under T-Aman cultivation.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) official sources said the department set target to bring some 4,000 hectares of land under Parija and Jirashail cultivation this season but the growers crossed the target.
Over 4,500 hectares of land were brought under the cultivation of Parija and Jirashail.
Some 2,300 tonnes of production is expected, the DAE officials said.
Farmer Matiur Rahman of Golagari village said he cultivated Pariaj paddy on 34 decimals of land this season spending Tk 12,000. He achieved around 11 maunds of yield and sold all the produce at Tk 11,000.
