Lockdown to be extended up to May 5

The government has decided to extend the current lockdown for another week until May 5.

The ongoing lockdown will end on April 28. The government imposed countrywide lockdown on April 14 to tackle the worsening Covid situation.

A notification in this regard is expected to be issued on Tuesday, said State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain on Monday.

“We are doing this in line with the suggestions of the health specialists. The situation of neigbouring India is so grave that we have to take precautionary measures to save lives of our people,” the state minister said.

According to the sources, mass transport will be off the road during the lockdown.

“Earlier, the government had a plan to open movement of mass transport from April 28, but with the deterioration of the Covid situation, the decision was scrapped,” a senior official said.

A high-level meeting of top officials of the administration was held on Monday to review the overall situation and the meeting recommended the lockdown extension, he added.
