Locals lynch ‘mugger’ in city

A suspected mugger was lynched in the city's Moghbazar area on Wednesday.

The deceased was known as Mangal, 25, son of Jakir Hossain. Further details of the victim were not available.

Police said locals caught Mangal when he was trying to snatch valuables from a pedestrian at Chairman Gali in the morning. Later, the angry mob gave him a good thrashing.

A team of Ramna Police Station rescued the youth along with a knife and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). He was taken to police station after providing first aid at the hospital.

Mangal fell sick again when one Shakhawat Hossain was preparing to file a complaint against him with the police station in the afternoon.

He was again rushed to the DMCH where the on-duty doctor declared him dead around 5:50 pm.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, reports UNB.
