A sexagenarian man has tried to violate a 10-year-old girl at Hazirhat in Boalkhali upazila of Chittagong district.
Locals caught the culprit, Abul Kalam, 62, a former government employee, and handed him over to police. A case was also filed in this connection, reports UNB.
According to the case statement, Kalam, son of Ali Ahmed of Muftipara of Boalkhali municipality, took the girl to a house he built on the bank of a large pond in Hazirhat on Sunday afternoon when she went to a tailoring shop, and tried to rape her there.
As the victim started shouting, locals rushed in and rescued her.
They also caught Kalam, made him parade the area after putting a garland of shoes around his neck and handed him over to police after a mass beating.
Officer-in-charge of Boalkhali Police Station Himangshu said they produced the culprit before a court.
