AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, newly elected mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), took his mayoral charge for the second time on Friday.
Liton, who got a victory in RCC mayoral election on July 30, took the charge from Panel Mayor Anwarul Amin Azab at a function at RCC office in the city, reports BSS.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur -Rahman presided over the ceremony. 40 ward councillors were present.
Lawmakers Omar Faruque Chowdhury, Fazley Hossain Badsha, Ayen Uddin, Engineer Enamul Haque and Abdul Wadud Dara attended the ceremony as special guests.
Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police AKM Hafiz Akter also joined the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Liton said, “I want to regain the previous image of Rajshahi as a green and clean city through making it eye-catching one on a priority basis.”
He is committed to generating employment opportunities for 100,000 unemployed people.
“I am very much hopeful about improving the living and livelihood condition of Rajshahi people as the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is positive towards Rajshahi’s development,” he added.
He said implementation of Bangabandhu Hi-tech Park here is progressing fast and employment scopes for over 14,000 youths will be created after its successful completion.
“I am planning for setting up five star hotel, BKSP, cricket venue, an agricultural university and a heart foundation in the city,” he added.
