Light to moderate rain likely in parts of country

Light to moderate rainfall may occur in the country including the capital Dhaka on Tuesday, officials said.

Talking to The Financial Express, Dr Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik, a meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), said light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in one or two places, mostly in Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions, on Tuesday.

The rain may continue until Wednesday and Thursday, he said.

The intensity of cold may increase due to the rainfall during the time, Dr Kalam added.

The country’s lowest temperature was recorded at 11. 7 degrees Celsius in Srimangal, a BMD 24-hour bulletin starting from 6:00 am today (Monday) said.

The highest temperature was recorded 31.0 degrees Celsius in Cox’s Bazar, it said.

The Met Office bulletin further said weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky over the country,

Light to moderate fog may occur over the country from midnight to morning, it said.

Night temperature may rise slightly and day temperature may fall by (1-2)°C over the country, as per the bulletin.

Trough of westerly low lies over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining area, it said, adding that seasonal low lies over South Bay, extending its trough to Northeast Bay.
