Law enforcers yet to trace Natore priest

The law enforcers are yet to trace Christian priest Father William Walter Rozario, 42, who went missing four days ago from Natore's Baraigram upazila.

Police superintendent Bojoy Talukdar said they are working to trace the missing priest, reports UNB.

Father William Walter Rozario, assistant priest of Jonail Borny Church and headmaster of St Lewis High School in the district, went missing on Monday afternoon.

A bdnews24.com report, quoting his brother Premal Rosario, says, a person called the family on the phone on Tuesday midnight and claimed the priest was kidnapped.

Later, the alleged kidnapper demanded Tk 300,000 in ransom, Premal said.

Police were at their home at the time and scanned the area, where the ‘kidnapper’ wanted the money to be placed, in plainclothes but found no one, Premal said.

The ‘kidnapper’ made no phone call after that, he added.

Natore Detective Branch OC Abdul Hye said, "We are investigating all angles. But the phone call demanding ransom seemed false to us.”

Bonpara Mission chief Bikash Hubert Rebeiro said they still have confidence in police action.

Bikash Hubert Rebeiro also said they have decided to send an around 300-strong delegation to meet Pope Francis, who is now in Dhaka on a three-day tour.
