The capital along with many other places in the country experienced light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind, on Friday.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), 33 mm rainfall was recorded in Dinajpur, while the capital witnessed 7.2 mm rainfall.

An official at the BMD told the FE that rain might occur in different areas today (Saturday), and after that the mercury might drop again from Sunday.

The lowest temperature of 11.2 degrees Celsius was recorded at Tetulia, while 18.2 degrees Celsius was recorded in the capital on Friday.

Different areas in the capital, including Motijheel, Farmgate, Dhanmondi, Jatrabari, Khilgaon, Malibag, Mogbazar, Badda, Mirpur, and Mohammadpur, witnessed light rainfall.

The rainfall that started at around 1:00 pm and continued until 4:30 pm forced lower-income group of people to bear the brunt of chilling cold in the evening. The day-labourers faced difficulties to earn their daily income.

Despite the rainfall, there was no gridlock in the capital due to closure of both public and private offices, as the day was Friday, a weekly holiday.

However, rickshaw-pullers demanded extra fares from passengers due to inclement weather coupled with low presence of CNG-run auto-rickshaws and public transports on the city roads.

"I had to pay Tk 60 to a rickshaw-puller for traveling from Kamalapur to Purana Paltan intersection on Friday afternoon, which is usually Tk 40 on other days," said Md Salahuddin, a private service-holder.

Potato farmers expressed fear that they might incur financial loss due to rainfall on potato fields.

Meanwhile, the Met Office said night temperature might remain unchanged, while day temperature may drop by 2.0 to 3.0 degree Celsius in the country on Saturday.

Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and at one or two places over Khulna and Dhaka divisions.

At the same time, the weather might remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky in other areas of the country.

Besides, moderate to thick fog might take place during midnight to morning over the river basins of the country's southern part, and light fog might take place elsewhere.
