Land mutation applications being monitored regularly, says minister

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury on Saturday said land mutation applications are being monitored online regularly.

“If an application is not disposed of within the specified time, the designated officials are ordered to show cause,” he said, adding complexities and irregularities regarding land mutation have been greatly reduced through regular monitoring.

The minister said this while addressing a dialogue titled 'Land Law and Policy: Realities in Char land (Bars)' as the chief guest at the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in the capital.

National Char Alliance and Shamannay organised the programme.

Minister of State for Religion Md Faridul Haq Khan was present as the guest of honour, while Member of Parliament for Kurigram-3 (Ulipur) constituency Professor M A Matin was present as the special guest.

National Char Alliance and Shamannay founding chair and former governor of Bangladesh Bank Professor Dr Atiur Rahman chaired the dialogue.

“The number of land-related cases will come down drastically if surveys are conducted accurately,” said the land minister.

"That is why the government has taken the initiative of a digital survey,"  he mentioned.

The minister further said that by making illegal land grabbing a criminal offence, the draft of ‘Land Crime Prevention and Redress Act, 2021’ has been drafted and made public for the opinions of stakeholders.

He opined that this law will play an important role to prevent land grabbing.
