KUSHTIA: After a Covid-induced hiatus of two years, a three-day festival remembering the legendary Baul Lalon Shah began on Tuesday at Chheuria under Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia district.
The Lalon Academy has organised the three-day festival in association with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Kushtia district administration. The festival will continue until Thursday with the slogan 'Manush Bhajle Sonar Manush Habi'. Preparations for the festival and village fair (Lalon Mela) have also been made at Lalon Akhrabari on the banks of the Kali River at Chheuria in Kushtia.
On the other hand, the organisers will hold discussion meetings and cultural programmes during the three-day event. The discussion meeting on the life and works of Lalon Shah, the great baul, Sufi mystic, composer and performer of Baul songs was organised at the Lalon academy premises about 7:45 pm. Khulna Divisional Commissioner Ismail Hossain attended the discussion meeting as the chief guest.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid will be present as the chief guest at another discussion meeting on Wednesday while Kushtia-3 (Sadar) MP Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif will attend the discussion meeting as the chief guest on the closing day on Thursday.
