Lack of transport causes different organisations to postpone programmes

Different scheduled programmes were postponed on Sunday due to acute scarcity of public transport amid ongoing student movement for safe roads in the capital.

On July 29, Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed as a 'Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan' bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road in the city.

In protest of their deaths, the students began waging movement across the country from that day.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad postponed a sharing meeting on reserved seats for women in parliament instead of nomination with civil society representatives and politicians due to the student movement, according to a press statement of the women rights organisation.

Apart from this, BRAC Institute of Governance and Development, BRAC University also cancelled a function on public lecture on ‘Inhabiting, Accommodating and Subverting Cultural Norms: Exploring Women’s Labour Market Behaviour in Bangladesh.

Ekram Hossain, senior communication manager of BRAC Institute of Governance and Development, BRAC University, told the FE that the authorities took decision not to hold the event owing to the street movement of the students.
