Kishor Alo editor Anisul Hoque among five get bail

A Dhaka Court on Thursday granted bail to 'Kishor Alo' Editor Anisul Hoque and four others accused in a case filed in connection with the death of Residential Model College ninth-grader Naimul Abrar Rahat during the anniversary celebration of the youth magazine on November 01 last year.

Besides, the court recalled an order that was passed earlier to confiscate the properties of these accused persons after showing them fugitives in a case.

Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Mohammad Jasim passed the order after holding hearing on a bail petition filed by the accused.

Earlier on the day, the accused persons surrendered in the court and sought bail.

The four other accused are Kishor Alo's Senior Sub Editor Mohitul Alam, Prothom Alo's Head of Event and Activation Kabir Bakul, executives Shah Poran Tushar and Shubashis Prmanik.

Advocate Ehsanul Haque Somaji and Advocate Prashanta Karmoker appeared in the court on behalf of the accused, while Assistant Public Prosecutor Sheuly Akter represented the state.

On Wednesday the same court ordered to confiscate the properties of these accused persons after showing them fugitives in a case.

Among the 10 accused of the case, these five accused had secured a HC order on January 20 this year upon the law enforcing agencies not to arrest or not to harass them till framing the charge in the case as their name is not mentioned in the case statement.

On November 06, 2019, Naimul's father Md Mojibur Rahman filed the case with 4th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka alleging that his son died due to the 'negligence' of the authorities of Kishor Alo, a youth magazine of Prothom Alo.

The case was later merged with another case of Mohammadpur Police Station filed for unnatural death of the ninth-grader.

Md Abdul Halim, sub inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station and also investigation officer of the case, submitted the investigation report on January 16 this year saying that negligence of the 'Kishor Alo' authorities has been found in the investigation over the death.

A Dhaka Court on the same day issued arrest warrant against 10 persons including Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman.

Following a bail petition, the High Court on January 20 this year granted anticipatory bail to Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and ordered the law enforcing agencies not to arrest or not to harass the other five accused-Anisul Hoque, Kabir Bakul, Shubashis Prmanik, Mohitul Alam and Shah Poran Tushar-till framing the charge in the case as their names are not mentioned in the case statement.
