KHULNA: Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) observed "University Day" marking its 18th founding anniversary on Wednesday on limited scale amid Covid-19 pandemic.
In the present situation, the University Day has been celebrated through various formalities.
In order to commemorate the day, the national flag and the flag of the university were hoisted amidst the national anthem at 9 am. Vice-chancellor of the university Prof Dr Kazi Sajjad Hossain was present as the chief guest. The event was presided over by the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Prof Dr Mohammad Abu Yusuf.
In the inaugural speech, the vice-chancellor said, "Our main goal and objective is to take KUET to a world-class position in education and research. Everyone associated with the university must strive to move this university forward from his own place."
To mark the day, tree planting, releasing fish fry in its ponds were arranged by the KUET authorities.
Khulna Engineering College was established in 1967 and the foundation stone was laid in 1968. Then on June 03, 1974 under the special direction of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman the academic activities started on July 01, 1986. The institute became Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Khulna, and was transformed into Khulna University of Engineering and Technology on September 01, 2003.
