Khulna-Mongla rail line to be opened by December, minister says

Under-construction rail trucks from Khulna to Mongla port would be opened for traffic by December next as nearly 75 per cent works of installation of Khulna-Mongla broad gauge rail track have already been done.

“Installation works of Khulna-Mongla broad gauge rail line will be completed within the stipulated time at any cost and necessary manpower will be recruited for this purpose if needed,” Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan said after inspecting the construction project of 64 kilometres long broad gauge line from Khulna to Mongla, reports BSS.

Highlighting some important projects of Bangladesh Railway (BR), he said the rail connectivity between Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar and alongside the Padma Bridge will also be introduced by 2022.

When the Khulna-Mongla port railway line is completed this year, there would be a radical change in the rail communications in the south eastern region of the country , he added.

Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khalek, Secretary to Railways Ministry Md Selim Reza and senior railway officials were present on the occasion.
