Khandker Mahbub laid to eternal rest

BNP vice-chairman and senior lawyer Khandker Mahbub Hossain was buried at Azimpur Graveyard in the capital on Monday.

The burial took place after his fifth namaz-e-janaza at the Khilgaon Chowdhury Para Jame Masjid ( Matir Masjid) after Zuhr prayers, reports UNB.

Mahbub, who was elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association on four occasions, died at Evercare Hospital while undergoing treatment on Saturday night at the age of 84.

His first janaza was held at Bashundhara residential area mosque and the second one on Khandaker Mahbub Hossain Eye Hospital premises at Mirpur, the third one at Nayapaltan in front of BNP's central office and the fourth one on the Supreme Court premises on Sunday.

BNP leaders and activists, lawyers as well as judges, and court officials paid their last respects to Mahbub after his body was brought to the BNP central office at Nayapaltan and the Supreme Court Bar Association compound on Sunday.

On December 26, Mahbub was admitted to the Evercare Hospital, and he was later diagnosed with pneumonia and with fluid in his lungs.

The noted lawyer was put on a ventilator a day later and suffered a heart attack while his kidneys were not functioning.

Mahbub, who was enrolled as a lawyer of the High Court Division in 1967, became vice-president of the Bangladesh Bar Council.

He joined the BNP in 2008 and he was also one of the lawyers for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Mahbub contested the 11th parliamentary election in 2018 as a BNP candidate in a Barguna constituency.
