Khagrachhari tethers to nat’l power grid Tuesday

Khagrachhari district is being connected with national grid through a newly built high voltage transmission line of 132 kv capacity.

Officials said the 80-km new line, built from Chandraghona to Khagrachhari, will improve the power supply capacity across the hill district and adjoining areas.

Earlier, a 33 kV line was used to supply electricity to the hill district.

The operation of the new line, installed by the state-owned Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), will begin by transmitting 132 kilo volt of power at 11am on Tuesday, reports UNB.

As part of the move, the PGCB has urged the people of different areas including Nishchintopur union of Rangunia upazila under Chittagong, Chondraghona, Haringoda, Dharmagoda, Bagapara, Magapara, and Keyanpara of Kaptai upazila under Rangamati, Khagra of Kaukhali upazila, Sapchhari, Jawthokhamar, Manikchhari and Sukarchhari of Rangamati sadar upazila, Ghilachhari, Bagachhari, atharamaile, Kengalchhari, and Betchhari of Naniarchar, Mahalchhari, Chongrachhari, Katapahar, Maishchhari, Gamaridhala, Bigitala Onunchhari of Mahalchhari upazila under Khagrachhari and Golabari, Dhakurchhara, and adjoining areas to stay at least 15 metre away from the transmission line where it passed overhead.

The PGCB also asked the people of these areas to refrain from risky activities like riding on the electric tower, tethering domestic animals to the tower or hanging clothes on clotheslines linked to the tower from the time of the line activation.

The call was made by the PGCB through a public notice where it said that if anybody is subjected to any accident after such notice, the organisation will not be held responsible.
