JS body for modernisation of Cox’s Bazar Airport

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday recommended modernisation and expansion of Cox’s Bazar Airport.

The committee made the recommendation as the airport is the entry point for heads of government from different countries and top officials of international organisations to visit the district to see the situation of the Rohingya people.

The recommendations came at the 17th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman Dr Dipu Moni in the chair, an official release said.

Other members of the committee -- Foreign Affairs Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud, Muhammad Faruq Khan, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Raji Mohammad Fakhrul, Selim Uddin and Begum Mahjabin Khaled attended the meeting.

The committee urged the authorities concern to take necessary steps for modernisation of Cox’s Bazar Airport for smooth movement of passengers coming from foreign countries, reports BSS.

The meeting suggested the Foreign Affairs Ministry to take initiatives to ensure safe return of Rohingyas to their homeland. Besides, the committee recommended strengthening of diplomatic relations with Russia and China to resolve the Rohingya crisis.
