JOYPURHAT, July 24: Papaya growers of Joypurhat are expecting a good production this season.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials, papaya farming is profitable in the area. A good number of farmers cultivate the item due to high profit.
"We have taken all necessary measures to make the cultivation programme a success", they added.
"I have brought over 33 decimals of land under papaya cultivation this season collecting seed from a noted company," said farmer Abul Hossain of Akkelpur upazila.
He again said, "I am expecting to make over Tk 70,000 as profit this year."
DAE agri officials said farmers should use both chemical and organic fartilsers on their papaya field.
While visiting different papaya fields of Akkelpur, Kalai, Panchbibi and Sadar upazilas of the district this correspondent found that the plants were growing well signaling a good yield.
Farmers will start harvesting summer papaya from August.
Deputy Director of DAE Sudhindranath Roy said, "We have taken an initiative to bring more land under the papaya cultivation in the coming seasons."
