JOYPURHAT, Apr 27: Gopalbhog mango farmers in the district are eyeing a bumper production amid the prevailing weather.
Sub-assistant agriculture officer of DAE Azizur Rahman said the mango variety is popular across the country. "We took all necessary measures so that the farmers can get a good yield", he added.
Drought-tolerant and high-yielding Gopalbhog mango farming is gaining momentum in the five upazilas of the district. The cultivation has been increasing across the region for easy cultivation process and low production cost.
Different varieties of mango are being cultivated on 500 hectares of land in Akkelpur, Kalai, Panchbibi, Khetlal and Sadar upazilas of the district this season.
Besides, DAE has taken several initiatives including observation of field day to popularise the all the varieties among the growers.
"I planted 300 Gopalbhog mango saplings on my 33 decimals of land under Khetlal upazila last year," said farmer Faruq Hossain under Akkelpur upazila. "All of the trees have been flowered well with the beginning of February", he added.
Sub-assistant agriculture officer of DAE Abul Basar said Gopalbhog is popular for its taste and flavour. Growers usually get good yield every season. Harvest will begin from July next.
