The two editors, who died recently, will be remembered for their valuable contributions in the field of journalism, said speakers at a memorial meeting on Friday.

The deeds and examples they have left behind would inspire the practicing as well as aspiring journalists, they said.

Editor of The Financial Express A.H.M. Moazzem Hossain breathed his last on August 1 and editor of the Daily Samakal Golam Sarwar died on August 13.

The comments came at a memorial meeting, organised by Jatiya Press Club or National Press Club in Dhaka.

Editor of the Daily Bhorer Kagoj Shyamal Dutta moderated the memorial meeting.

The speakers said that the passing of the two editors was an "irreparable loss" for the media industry as they were considered to be the doyens of journalism.

They said that both were professionals and did not compromise with their professional ethics.

Press Advisor to the Prime Minister and editor of the Daily Observer Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said that the late duo were successful editors and journalists.

"Moazzem Bhai had set a new example or trend in writing economic reporting in English," he said while recollecting his memories as his colleague at the now-defunct The Bangladesh Observer.

"They were completely good persons and professionals," said president of JPC Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman.

"We have lost our two guardians in the field of journalism. Their absence could never be filled in future," said general-secretary of Jatiya Press Club Farida Yasmin.

"Late Moazzem bhai was a prominent journalist, particularly in the field of economic journalism," said chief editor of private television channel ETV Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul.

"Sarwar bhai's death caused an irreparable loss for us and also for me," he said.

He said that his death has left a void in professional journalism.

"The depth of knowledge of late Moazzem Bhai was unparalleled. Golam Sarwar Bhai was out and out a professional person," prominent businessman and publisher of Daily Samakal AK Azad said.

"They (Moazzem Hossain and Golam Sarwar) were workaholic and completely professional," said former editor of Daily News Today Reazuddin Ahmed.

Senior vice-president of JPC and acting editor of Daily Jugantor Saiful Alam said he had a good relationship with the two editors.

"They did not hesitate to reveal the truth as they were totally professional," he said.

The memorial meeting also remembered other 32 JPC members who left the world over the past two years.

Senior journalist Abed Khan, acting editors of Daily Sangbad Khandaker Muniruzzaman and Daily Samakal Mustafiz Shafi, late editor Moazzem Hossain's son Fahim Hossain, late editor Golam Sarwar's son Golam Sahriar Ranjan also recollected memories of the late journalists.
