The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested Tithy Sarkar, a Jagannath University (JnU) student, who allegedly remained missing since October 25, on charge of hurting religious sentiments and spreading rumours.

Terming that Tithy staged her abduction, Jamil Ahmed, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the CID's Cyber Police Centre in a press briefing held at its headquarters on Thursday said the CID’s cyber monitoring team arrested the girl from Narsingdi’ Madhabdi area at around 4:15 pm on Wednesday.

Tithy, a third-year student of Zoology Department, was suspended from the university on October 26. She allegedly used her Facebook ID to share religious provocative and derogatory posts, comments and information at different times. As a result, general students of the university protested against her through different programmes.
