Jatka conservation week to begin Mar 31

The National ‘Jatka Conservation Week-2022’ will be observed from March 31 to April 6 aiming to create mass awareness on preserving hilsa fry to boost the overall fish production. 

The decision came at a meeting of the National Task Force on Hilsa Resource Development at the department of fisheries in Dhaka on Sunday, reports UNB. 

At the meeting, the Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Dr Md Yeamin Chowdhury urged the people to work together for the conservation of Jatka. 

Various programmes were scheduled at central and district-upazila level during Jatka Conservation Week, including press conferences, inaugural rallies, naval rallies and discussion events, distribution of poster-leaflets, sports competitions with fishermen and fishermen, cultural events and discussion meetings, conducting mobile court and campaign for protection of Jatka. 

Jatka Conservation Week has been observed every year since 2007 to highlight the harmful aspects of illegal nets and the importance of protection of Jatka in the development of hilsa and fishery resources to the people of the country.
