The government has appointed Additional Inspector General of Police (SB) Dr Mohammad Jabed Patwari as the inspector general of police (IGP).
The home ministry issued a circular in this regard on Thursday morning.
His appointment comes at the end of term of outgoing IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque.
The gazette notification, signed by Md Ilias Hossain, deputy secretary (police) of Home Ministry, will be effective from January 31.
