The UN Migration Agency on Friday opened two healthcare units inside a Rohingya refugee camp in Cox's Bazar.
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has set up the medical units in the world's largest refugee settlement for Rohingyas and also for the people affected by the refugee influx.
One of the treatment facilities has been set up on the side of what was formerly a small medical post constructed with bamboo and tarpaulins.
The facility in Madhurchara of Ukhiya is the first to offer treatment services for the refugees and members of the host community living in a particularly densely populated part of the camp.
There are 20 beds for the patients admitted and staying overnight.
The facility will also provide maternity services to improve access to sexual and reproductive health services.
Besides, special paediatric health services for children up to the age of 12, special medical services for the newborns and complex laboratory services will also be available there.
The other facility was a primary healthcare unit opened by IOM in collaboration with the Bangladesh health authorities.
Dr Andrew Mbala, IOM health emergency coordinator in Cox's Bazar, said the healthcare facilities will ease pressure on the Cox's Bazar district hospital.
