Installation of rail track on Padma Bridge starts

Installation of rail track on the lower deck of the Padma Bridge was formally inaugurated on Saturday declaring to complete the bridge part by December next.

However, the entire 215 kilometre rail corridor from Dhaka to Jashore through Padma bridge will be ready by June next year.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujon disclosed these while formally lunching the work from Janjira side viaduct of the rail bridge in the afternoon.

Chief whip Nur e Alam Chowdhury, Rail Secretary Dr Humayun Kabi and Bangladesh Railway Director General Dhirendra Nath Majumder were present on the occasion.

“Work has been carried out with the plan to complete the entire railway line development by June,” the minister said when asked about its possibility of completion.

He said the ballast track has been developed in the Padma Bridge rail for the first time.

The railway minister said earlier the railway part of the Padma Bridge was planned to complete by six months.

As there are some works done by this time since the Padma Multipurpose Bridge project office has given the BR's contractor the access to the site, it is expected to complete the rest work in next four months.

Some 65 per cent work of entire Padma Bridge rail link project was completed till now. But the Mawa to Bhanga part of the project was recorded 83.5 per cent.
