Info Minister urges BNP to join JS

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Thursday urged BNP to join parliament and make constructive criticisms of the government for its mistakes to strengthen democracy.

“I urge BNP to follow the path of Sultan Mansur, the elected lawmaker of Oikyafront, and join parliament. Please show the flaws and mistakes of the government to strengthen democracy,” he said, speaking at a discussion at the Department of Films and Publications (DFP) in the city.

DFP organized the meeting marking the historic March 7. Information Secretary Abdul Malek addressed the meeting as special guest with DFP Director General Mohammad Ishtaque Hossain in the chair.

Hasan said, “We want constructive criticisms of the mistakes of the government. There is no single government in the world which has no mistake. So, you (BNP) should come in the parliament for criticising the government’s flaws.”

Urging BNP not to do negative politics, Hasan, also the publicity and publication secretary of the ruling Awami League, said, “I congratulate Oikyafront leader Sultan Mansur. BNP should follow the path of Mansur. Otherwise, the voters would not forgive them.”

About a demand of BNP regarding its chief Begum Khaleda Zia’s medical treatment, the minister said the politics of BNP is now stuck in the sickness of Begum Zia.

“But, she is getting world class treatment. Every facility is being given to her. She gets her favorite house maid. Everyday a doctor visits her in the jail for checkup. A physiotherapist and a nurse have been appointed for her. Besides, the treatment of Begum Zia is going on at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU)… You know that Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader was also admitted at BSMMU and world famous Dr Devi Shethi and the Singaporean specialist doctors appreciated its treatment.”

Hasan said Bangabandhu’s landmark March 7 speech is one of the timeless speeches in the world which was a great source of inspiration to the freedom-loving people to jump into a war to free the nation from the Pakistani subjugation.

He said the speech is a unique example of how an address aroused an entire nation to jump into the Liberation War for attaining independence.
