Inflation slightly up in August

The point-to-point inflation rate in last month August boosted by 0.15 percentage points to 5.68 per cent, official data showed.

In July this year, the inflation rate was recorded at 5.53 per cent.

A year ago in August 2019, the inflation rate was 5.49 per cent.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistic (BBS) data, unveiled on Tuesday, showed that the point-to-point inflation for the food item increased to 6.08 per cent in the last month from that of 5.70 per cent in the previous month July.

The inflation rate for the non-food items, however, fell to 5.05 per cent in August than that of 5.28 per cent in the previous month, the BBS data said.

In the rural Bangladesh, the inflation rate in August was recorded at a higher trend of 5.60 per cent while it was 5.43 per cent in July this year.

In the urban area, the point-to-point inflation rate was also recorded higher to 5.81 per cent in the last month from that of 5.72 per cent in the previous month July.
