Infection rate in Wari area under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), the second red-zone of the city implementing lockdown, has not changed from the previous situation despite 11 days of lockdown, forcing the authority to become stricter.

The infection rate was 40 per cent during the time of enforcing lockdown on July 4.

Besides, in last 11 days only 148 people gave samples for Covid-19 detection test to the collection booth in the area under lockdown with a population of over 0.1 million.

These were revealed during the second review meeting of the central implementation committee at Nagar Bhaban.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh chaired the meeting. He called upon the law-enforcers to be stricter in enforcing lockdown in Wari.

The mayor expressed deep concern, as local people provided such a low number of samples despite the fact that the infection rate still remains as high as the time of enforcing lockdown.

Terming it as unacceptable, the DSCC mayor instructed all concerned to ensure that no member of any household having Covid-19 patient is allowed outside.

"It is not a reflection of the actual situation, if only 148 people out of a population of over 0.1 million give samples. I encourage you to be aware and give more samples," he added.

The councilor of Ward-41 Sarwar Hossain Alo and the IEDCR representative informed the meeting that 28 teams will request local residents to provide samples for free of cost test by going from door to door. They also said 600 people are being supplied with food thrice a day and 300 families are supplied with vegetables free of cost.

The mayor also gave instruction to all concerned to shut down all the public and private offices, business centres, including Pacific Pharmaceuticals, and two super-shops in the area.

He asked all to provide a complete list of food suppliers, who supply food through e-commerce, and restrict movement of other people in the area.
