Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has said that the ban imposed by India on export of COVID-19 vaccine would not be applicable for Bangladesh.
“Indian external affairs ministry confirmed us that their ban (on COVID vaccine export) will not be applicable for Bangladesh. There is no reason for us to worry,” he told newsmen at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Monday, reports BSS.
Bangladesh, he said, is not concerned as the commitment to get Indian vaccine has been made at the highest level during last month’s talk between two countries Prime Ministers Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi.
Confirming that India and Bangladesh will get Serum Institute’s vaccine at the same time, Momen said the vaccine will be available at the end of this month.
The foreign minister said the regulatory process on vaccine approval in Bangladesh remains pending which will be done soon.
Replying a question, the foreign minister said the government is also exploring various sources apart from India to get potential COVID-19 vaccine.
Bangladesh had signed a deal with Serum Institute of India and Beximco Pharmaceuticals for receiving 30 million doses of the said vaccine by the end of January or early February.
