Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said the North-Eastern states like Assam and Tripura can use the Chattogram seaport by strengthening the connectivity between the two neighbouring countries.
"It needs to enhance the connectivity between the two countries. If the connectivity is increased, the Indian North Eastern states like Assam and Tripura can have access to the Chattogram seaport," she said.
The Prime Minister said this when Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met her at the former's official residence Ganobhaban in the afternoon, as per a UNB report.
PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
Sheikh Hasina said an initiative has already been taken to reopen the cross-border routes which had been shut between the two countries in 1965.
In the meeting, both of them expressed happiness at the state of the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.
