Indian aircraft catches fire at HSIA

An Indian aircraft has caught fire while taking off at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) today.

All the 74 passengers, pilots, and crews of Indian SpiceJet aircraft were evacuated safely after the incident took place at around 10.30 am, HSIA official source said.

Armed Police Battalion Superintendent Tarique Ahmed said the authorities cancelled the flight after a rear wheel caught fire on the runway.

After witnessing smoke coming from the nose wheel of the Kolkata bound aircraft, the standby fire unit of the airport immediately rushed to the spot and dodged the fire.

According to a BSS report, the aircraft is now under repairing and flight operation is normal at the airport.
