India hands over 12 Bangladeshis  

India handed over 12 Bangladeshi nationals including four women to the concern authorities through Benapole check post on Saturday.

Indian police handed over eight water-transport workers to Benapole Immigration Police and four to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), reports UNB.

Later, they were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station, said Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Immigration Police.

Shah Alam, presidentof Bangladesh Water Transport Workers' Federation, received eight people who will later be handed over to the respective families while the four women including a child will later be handed over to human rights organisation Rights Jessore. Later, they will be delivered to their families accordingly.

One and a half years back, they had illegally entered India and were held in Medinipur by West Bengal Police, said the OC.

After serving jail term there for 1.5 years, they were brought back home under the bilateral communication established by the countries' home ministries and the subsequent homeland return policies.
