The three-day co-ordination conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) concluded on Friday with the signing of joint record of discussion (JRD) at frontier headquarters BSF in Salbagan, Agartala.
The co-ordination conference was held to discuss a host of issues including cross-border issues smuggling, human trafficking and other developmental works.
Speaking at a press conference, Sushanta Kumar Nath, Inspector general (IG), Tripura frontier said that during the conference bilateral border issues like trans-border crimes including smuggling of drugs and other narcotics substances, border violations were discussed.
“We have discussed preventive measures, pending developmental works by BSF as well as the local civil administration, construction of single Row fence along Indo-Bangladesh International boundary and co-ordinated border management plan (CBMP) were discussed at length”, Nath said.
He also informed that leaders of both the delegations agreed to initiate preemptive measures in creating an environment of peace and tranquillity along the international border by amicably resolving all the pending issues and further strengthening the bond of friendship, trust and co-operation.
The head of BGB delegation, Khondoker Farid Hassan, said, “We have exchanged our view, ideas and concepts on border-related issues in a very congenial environment to enhance the existing present friendly relationship. Border-related issues were discussed in-depth, and efforts have been taken to curb the trans-border crimes”.
He also said that both the security forces have agreed to operate against trans-border crimes with a higher degree of cooperation, including taking legal actions against the perpetrator as per the laws of the respective countries.
“We have discussed and agreed upon to bring the border crimes killing into zero. We have also expressed zero-tolerance against smuggling of drugs, explosives and human trafficking”, Hassan added.
Both the nations have agreed to take preventive and sensitise the bordering population while keeping close vigilance in the vulnerable areas and sharing information regarding drugs narcotics, arms dealers.
The Bangladesh delegate also said that a visit to a neighbouring country like India is always pleasant as both India and Bangladesh share a common culture and history.
Tripura shares 856-km-long international border with neighbouring Bangladesh, of which around 67 km area is unfenced.
