Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) has yet again called for increasing reserved seats for women in parliament by one-third.

To this effect, it urged the government to place the bill in the upcoming session of the parliament.

Earlier on July 8 last year, the parliament unanimously passed the Constitution (17th Amendment) Bill 2018, extending women's reserved seat system in parliament by 25 years.

The women’s human rights organisation came up with the demands at a press conference held at the Sufia Kamal Bhaban Auditorium in Dhaka city on Sunday.

The BMP also called for the end of violence against women and children across the country.

BMP president Ayesha Khanam and BMP General Secretary Maleka Banu, among others, spoke on the occasion.

BMP Andolon (movement) Secretary Rekha Chowdhury read out the statement at the function.
