Three get life in prison for war crimes

A tribunal has sentenced three people to prison until death and jailed five others for 20 years over a series of crimes during the 1971 Liberation War in Gafargaon and Bhaluka upazilas of Mymensingh.

A three-member panel of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) led by Justice Shahinur Islam announced the verdict on Thursday, reports bdnews24.com.

The convicts faced four charges of abduction, detention, torture and murder during Bangladesh's war of independence.

Among the nine accused, one man was acquitted of the charges to become the first person to be exonerated by the war crimes tribunal in the 42 cases it has tried.
