A young housewife, who was beaten and forced to take insecticide allegedly by her husband and in-laws at Darjipara village in Tentulia upazila on Sunday, died at a hospital on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Shefali Akhter, 20, wife of Liton Islam of the village.
Police detained victim's parents-in-law and a sister-in-law for interrogation over the incident.
Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Tentulia Model Police Station Md Jahurul Islam said Liton and his family members had been torturing Shefali demanding dowry since their marriage three years back.
On Sunday, they beat the young housewife mercilessly, leaving her unconscious.
At one stage, they reportedly poured pesticide into her mouth.
Locals took Shefali to the Upazila Health Complex from where she was shifted to Panchagarh General Hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries in the morning.
Liton went into hiding but police detained his father, mother and sister for interrogation, the OC said, reports UNB.
