Hospital negligence leads to pregnant woman’s death in Cumilla

A pregnant woman died for alleged negligence in treatment at a private hospital in Gouripur of Daudkandi upazila in the district early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Nurjahan, 22, wife of Dalim Mia of Baghairampur in Titas upazila.

Deceased family members said Nurjahan had a caesarean operation at Rangdhanu Hospital on August 24 and as her condition deteriorated there she was referred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Nurjahan was taken to DMCH and later shifted to another private hospital where she died early hours on Monday, reports UNB.

Officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station Alamgir Hossain said the relatives of Nurjahan demonstrated in front of the hospital after her death and demanded justice.

"We assured them of proper investigation and the body was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy," he added.

Cumilla Civil Surgeon Dr. Mujibur Rahman said he has directed to form a three-member committee along with Upazila Health Officer to probe into the matter.
