Honours degree mandatory for primary teaching candidates

The government has issued new guidelines for recruitment in its primary schools raising the minimum qualification of female candidates for teaching jobs from HSC to honours.

Male candidates only with honours and minimum second class or equal CGPA from any recognised university or any equivalent degrees were eligible to apply to become assistant teacher or headmaster of government primary schools until now.

According to bdnews24.com, the minimum qualification for female candidates was higher secondary certificate (HSC) or equivalent degrees.

“Now the minimum qualification for all candidates – female and male – has been set at honours,” Primary and Mass Education Secretary Akram Al Hossain said on Tuesday after the publication of the new guidelines.
