Homecoming Day being observed

The historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is being observed today (Thursday).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage to the architect of the country's independence by placing wreaths at the portrait of the Father of the Nation in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the city.

The Prime Minister stood there in solemn silence for some time showing deep respect to the Father of the Nation, reports UNB.

Flanked by ministers and central leaders of Bangladesh Awami League, Sheikh Hasina, on behalf of her party, placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu as its president.

Later, leaders of Awami League's associate bodies, including Jubo League, Chhatra League, Sramik League, Mohila Awami League, Swechchhasebak League, Krishak League and different socio-cultural organisations placed wreaths at the portrait of the great leader.

Bangabandhu returned to independent Bangladesh via London and New Delhi on January 10 in 1972 after 290 days of captivity in a Pakistan jail.
