High speed internet connections for 2,600 more UPs

About 2,600 more union parishads will be brought under high speed internet connections through optical fibre cable aiming to reach the goal of building 'Digital Bangladesh'.

The internet connections will be given under ‘Bangladesh Government Phase-III’ project (Info-Sarker Phase-3) of the ICT division, said Posts, Telecommunications and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar at a workshop on Sunday.

Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) under the ICT division arranged the five-day workshop in the capital.

The objective of the Info-Sarker Phase-III project is to reach the internet at the doorsteps of rural people.

Mustafa Jabbar formally inaugurated the workshop with executive director of ICT division Partha Pratim Deb in the chair.

Huawei, a Chinese company, is providing all necessary supports to implementation of this Info-Sarker Phase-3 project, which is expected to be completed by September in 2018.

Info-Sarker Phase-3 is an extension of government ICT network to the lowest tier of administration - union parishads - from existing network up to upazilla (sub-district) through Info-Sarker-2 and BanglaGovNet (Info-Sarker Phase 1) projects.

Info-Sarkar Project is the benchmark initiative to make digital Bangladesh by connecting all people, organisations and resources of all tiers through internet, reports BSS.
