TANGAIL, Nov 27: High prices of ginger both in retail and wholesale market in all the 12 upazilas of the district have delighted the growers.
Most farmers of the item are now busy harvesting the produce.
Traders from neighbouring districts start visiting the area to purchase the spice crop from the farmers directly.
Ginger is being sold at Tk 130 to Tk 140 per kg in local market as against Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg a few months ago.
Retailer Alamgir Hossain of the Park Moydan Bazar said ginger is selling at a high rate across the district.
Wholesaler Ariful Hoque said restriction over the supply of imported ginger is the main reasons of the price hike.
Farmer Akkas Miah of Khasherchala village under Shakhipur upazila said he is happy over the present market price of ginger.
The grower said he sold all of his produce at Tk 4,500 per maund in the local market.
Akkas Miah said he has made a handsome profit by growing ginger after a long time.
Sub-assistant Agriculture officer of DAE, Tangail, Shariful Islam said ginger cultivation is not much popular in the district. A fsmall number of cultivators grow the item every season.
